President Barack Obama By the Numbers

Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States. Here's a by-the-numbers look ahead at this historic event.

{ 1 }   Obama will be the first president born in Hawaii. (Small surprise: Hawaii didn't become a state until 1959. Obama was born in 1961.)

{ 77 }   Days until Obama's inauguration on 20 January 2009.

{ 47-5-16 }   Obama's age in years, months and days when he takes office in January.

He'll be the fifth-youngest American president ever. Theodore Roosevelt is still the champ at age 42, followed by John Kennedy (43), Bill Clinton (46 years, 5 months), and Ulysses Grant (46 years, 11 months). Obama will bump Grover Cleveland (47 years, 11 months) from the top five.

{ 8 }   Presidents, including Obama, schooled at Harvard.

Of those eight, he is the second to attend Harvard Law School. Rutherford B. Hayes was the first; he graduated in 1845, 146 years before Obama.

{ 24 }   Years Michelle Obama will be older than the youngest first lady.

Michelle Obama will turn 45 on January 17th, three days before her husband takes office. Frances Folsom married Grover Cleveland at the White House in 1886, when she was only 21. There have been many youngish First Ladies; most recently, Jackie Kennedy was 31 when JFK took office in 1961.

{ 2 }   Michelle Obama will be the second First Lady with a law degree. Hillary Clinton was the first.

{ 7 } and { 10 }   Ages of Obama's daughters Sasha and Malia when he takes office.

Jenna and Barbara Bush were 19 when George W. Bush was inaugurated. Chelsea Clinton was 12 at the start of her father's term in 1993. Amy Carter was nine when Jimmy Carter took office in 1977.

{ 1 }   Obama will be the first Columbia University undergraduate to become president. (Dwight Eisenhower was president of Columbia when he was elected U.S. president in 1952.)

{ 4 }   Presidents, including Obama, with strong ties to Illinois.

Abraham Lincoln remains the state's favorite son (though he was actually born in Kentucky). Ulysses Grant was a clerk in Galena, Illinois when the Civil War broke out; he was living there again in 1868 when he received word he had been elected president. And Ronald Reagan was born in Tampico in 1911.

{ 44 }   Obama will be the 44th U.S. president. (Grover Cleveland -- him again! -- is counted as both the 22nd and 24th presidents, having served non-consecutive terms.)

{ 55 }   Obama's age on leaving office in 2017, if he serves two terms. That's one year older than George W. Bush was when he took office in 2001. In the year 2017, Michelle Obama will be 53. Sasha and Malia will be 15 and 18.

{ 1 }   Barack Obama will be the first African-American president. It has been 138 years since the 15th Amendment guaranteed African-Americans the right to vote.

Although I voted for McCain/Palin, I am surprised by my feelings of hope and something akin to energy when thinking about the next adminitstration of President Obama. Last night I reflected on a painting by Norman Rockwell depicting a little African-American girl being escorted by two policemen during the 60's. I could not help but think how he might show two little African-American girls in the White House. Maybe I'm too emotional, but a big part of me feels a unity for our country. It has been obvious from the beginning that Barack Obama is very intelligent and very focused. I hope he will keep the promises that he has made to the American people, and I hope that we will become a nation of more strength through unity.

I am very excited and ready for the change that comes from Barack's fresh ideals and new tactics . This the beginning of a rainbow that I will feel shine over this whole country and world. I know the job won't be a piece a cake , but I feel in my heart it won't be long before all our major concerns are on the talble and on the right track to being solved

FRIST I THANK GOD FOR TOUCHING PEOPLE OF ALL COLOR TO GO OUT AND VOTE. I WOULD LIKE FOR OBAMA TO ALWAYS THANKS GOD IN EVERYTHING HE DO AND IN ALL OF HIS SPEECHES. WITHOUT GOD IT WILL NOT BE. I KNOW HE GOT GOD IN HIM BECAUSE GOD PUT HIM THERE FOR A REASON. WE THE PEOPLE WILL NEED TO HELP HIM, BY STAYING UNITED TOGETHER IN GOD. THE SUNSHINE IS ON THE WAY. IT IS STILL DARK. THE LIGHT WILL NOT COME OVERNIGHT. WE WILL GET THERE IN GOD HOLY NAME.

First, I would like to thank God for Such power, and faith, and many blessings he has poured upon us. He had bless this nation with a good man, and reguardless of the race, or color, we thank him each day for giving us someone out of his will. We Thank God, for allowing us the opportunity to give us the right to vote. If God, haven't open the door for us, there wouldn't be a vote that would count. There were days when our, black men and womens, didn't have the right to do anything. But when you seek God and know that hes every step of the way with you theres no need to worry about a thing. Thank you for allowing me to leave a comment. Here's a scripture that will bring this country to one unity, and peace for all. "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is bor nagain because of what GOd has done. And Everyone who loves the Father loves his children as well.

I think that it is wonderful that change is coming our way sooon. After 8 years of hopelessness in this current administration, a new face and ideas is exactly what the Doctor ordered for this ill nation
of ours. A new direction, a new course. The old medicine didn't and hasn't worked. We'll be healthy again.
