George Lazenby Biography

Now the “forgotten Bond,” George Lazenby was the first actor to follow Sean Connery in the iconic film role of superspy James Bond. George Lazenby was a model with just a few TV commercials under his belt when he was hired to star as Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969, with Diana Rigg) after Connery had tired of the role. Lazenby proved to be a one-hit wonder; Connery reclaimed the role for Diamonds Are Forever in 1971, after which Roger Moore took over the role. George Lazenby’s other films include Kentucky Fried Movie (1974), Master Ninja II (1984) and Fatally Yours (1995, with Roddy McDowall). Lazenby married former tennis pro Pam Shriver in June 2002, after the two were introduced at Wimbledon in 2000. They had three children, but began divorce proceedings in 2008. Their divorce was finally completed in May of 2011.

Extra credit

After Diamonds Are Forever, Roger Moore went on to play James Bond in seven straight films… On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is the only film in which Bond gets married. Bond also participates in a Japanese wedding ceremony as part of his undercover duties in You Only Live Twice, but fans disagree as to whether that marriage was legally binding… George Lazenby’s marriage to Shriver was his second. Their children are George (b. 2004) and twins Kaitlin and Samuel (b. 2005).
