Margaret Hamilton

Actor

Margaret Hamilton played the nasty, cackling Wicked Witch of the West in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. (As tormentor of the heroine Dorothy and her pup Toto, Hamilton uttered the famous line "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!") Hamilton had a long career on stage and screen, often playing spinsters and nosy neighbors with names like Aunt Huddy, Mrs. Klopplebobbler and Hester Crabwell. In the 1970s she gained fresh fame as Cora, the helpful busybody in commercials for Maxwell House coffee.

Extra credit: Hamilton actually played two characters in The Wizard of Oz: the wicked witch and her alter-ego in Kansas, the dog-hating Miss Gulch... Dorothy was played by Judy Garland.

Other actors born in Cleveland: Halle Berry, Drew Carey and Paul Newman.
