Walter Koenig Biography

Like most cast members of the TV series Star Trek, Walter Koenig seems permanently linked with the show.

He played Ensign Pavel Chekov, the Russian among the cast’s multi-ethnic crew, from 1967-69. (He joined the show in its second season).

Koenig also played Chekov in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979), in six film sequels (from The Wrath of Khan in 1982 through Generations in 1994), and in various other Star Trek multimedia projects over the years.

Koenig also scored on another sci-fi TV show, playing Psi cop Alfred Bester on 12 episodes of the TV series Babylon 5 (1994-98).

He published his autobiography, Warped Factors: A Neurotic’s Guide to the Universe, in 1998.

Koenig’s son, Andrew, was also an actor; he played “Boner” Stabone on the TV series Growing Pains in the 1980s. Andrew Koenig took his own life in Stanley Park in Vancouver, B.C. in 2010.

Koenig’s co-stars on Star Trek included William Shatner as Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Mr. Spock, and DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy… Pre-Trek, Koenig was a guest star on the TV series Ben Casey.
