Soleil Moon Frye Biography

Soleil Moon Frye played a spunky orphan in the popular TV series Punky Brewster from 1984-88.

The show had an extended life in reruns, making Frye something of a pop culture icon for the ’80s generation. (A cartoon version of the show, It’s Punky Brewster, also ran for a few seasons.)

In the 1990s, Frye’s credits included The Liar’s Club (1993), the Roger Corman remake Piranha (1995) and Wild Horses (1998), an independent film which she also co-wrote and co-directeed. Frye’s 1993 breast-reduction surgery put her on the cover of People magazine. She joined the cast of TV’s Sabrina, The Teenage Witch in 2000 as Roxie King. She also voiced the character of Jade in a series of Bratz DVDs.

Frye has also directed the documentaries Sonny Boy (2004) and Kid 90, a nostalgic 2021 documentary about her own early years.
