Elizabeth Taylor in ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’

Elizabeth Taylor (at right, in case that wasn't clear) is not quite alluring enough for Paul Newman (holding crutch) in the 1958 psychodrama Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. The film, directed by Richard Brooks, was based on the play by Tennessee Williams, which won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1955. Taylor played Margaret 'Maggie the Cat' Pollitt, thus the title. Per Wikipedia, "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof features motifs such as social mores, greed, superficiality, mendacity, decay, sexual desire, repression and death," which is why the movie was such a barrel of laughs.
