Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine has died. He was 95 years old.
Ernest Borgnine was a navy man who became an unlikely movie star. After his terrific performance as villain Fatso Judson in 1952’s From Here to Eternity, Borgnine captivated audiences even more as the good-hearted Marty, the 1955 drama that earned him an Oscar.
Of course, what he’s most remembered for is probably his four-year stint as Captain McHale on the 1960s TV series McHale’s Navy. To younger audiences he may be known as “Mermaid Man” from Spongebob Squarepants.
The Los Angeles Times has his obituary. They say he died in the hospital, surrounded by friends and family.
And Who2 has a biography of Ernest Borgnine.
