Gabrielle Giffords is the Arizona Congresswoman who was shot by a 22-year-old man at a meet-and-greet in Tucson today. We’ve just posted a new biography of Gabrielle Giffords, with information taken from her Congressional biography, her official site, news updates, and past reports.
The photo above is from the media section of her 2010 campaign website. A Democrat, Giffords has just started her third term in Congress from Arizona’s 8th District.
NPR reported earlier today that Gabrielle Giffords had been killed in the shooting, but later reports say she survived. At a new conference in Arizona this afternoon, doctors said she had survived neurosurgery and that they were guardedly optimistic about her recovery.
The Arizona Daily Star (Tucson) and Arizona Central (Phoenix) are good sources for ongoing news about this story.
[Update: See notes on how Giffords could survive being shot in the head.]
