Theresa May is your new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She entered Number 10 Downing Street last night with her husband, Philip May, at her side.  Here are a few quick photos of her day.

Before you become prime minister, the Queen has to ask you officially to form a government. Here’s Theresa May curtseying before Queen Elizabeth II, both of them playing their roles admirably. As much as Queen Elizabeth (God bless her) is shrinking, one has to curtsey pretty low to get down below her head.

That striking yellow patch is actually the bottom of the new prime minister’s jacket. (“Acid yellow accents” on a midnight blue coat, is how the Daily Mail described it.)

Then it was on to Number 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the prime minister… but not before passing certain citizens who were afraid that the new PM might forget to leave the European Union. “Theresa May, don’t delay! Brexit is the only way!”  By George, that’s a pretty snappy chant.

Safely arrived at Number 10, Theresa May gave brief remarks from behind a super-stylish podium. Since it’s officially the Queen’s Government, the royal coat of arms is used on the podium with its lion, unicorn and motto Dieu droit et mon (“God is my law”).

Then it was time for the new prime minister to pose for a wide shot with her husband at the door to Number 10…

…and then head inside and get to work. Note the prime minister’s leopard-print kitten heels, her longtime fashion signature. (Yes, this week we learned what kitten heels are. Somehow we never heard much about David Cameron‘s shoes.)

Speaking of David Cameron: with every winner there has to be a loser, and before Theresa May could move into 10 Downing, the old prime minister’s family had to get rousted out.

Well, Mr. Cameron doesn’t look all that sorry to be leaving. Here he goes with his wife, Samantha, and their children Arthur, Nancy and Florence Rose. Six years is a solid run, after all, and happy trails to them.
