Sean Young Biography

Name at birth: Mary Sean Young

In the early 1980s, Sean Young appeared in the original Blade Runner as Harrison Ford‘s love interest and seemed poised to be Hollywood’s next big star.

Beautiful and brunette, Young was in her early 20s and starring in big movies with directors like David Lynch and Oliver Stone. By the end of the decade, she had a reputation for being difficult on set and was being sued for harassment by her co-star of The Boost, James Woods.

Being fuel for the gossip mill kept Young from major movie roles for years, and by 2011 she was a reality TV personality on Dr. Drew‘s Celebrity Rehab (for alcohol).

By the time the sequel Blade Runner: 2049 was released in 2017, Young had a reputation as someone whose career was mostly defined by having a bad reputation. She did not appear in the sequel, but the film includes a scene with Young from the original 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott.

Sean Young’s films include Stripes (1981, starring Bill Murray), Dune (1984, directed by Lynch), No Way Out (1987, starring Kevin Costner), Wall Street (1987, starring Charlie Sheen), Love Crimes (1992) and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994, starring Jim Carrey).

Extra credit

Many of Sean Young’s problems came after she was replaced by Kim Basinger in Tim Burton’s Batman. Young had been unable to complete the film due to an injury while training for the film. The movie went on the be a box office hit. She then famously “auditioned” for the Catwoman role in the sequel Batman Returns (1992) by storming the studio offices in costume… The much publicized 1989 lawsuit by actor James Woods accused Young of stalking him, which she denied. The case was settled out of court.
