Fritz Haber

Nobel Prize recipient (1919) Fritz Haber, the German chemist who devised a way to pull ammonia from the nitrogen in our air, thus allowing the production of fertilizer and feeding untold millions. Haber, however, also led the first poison gas attacks in World War I and was at least in part responsible for the deaths of... possibly millions.
