“What is, it happened at 2:30 a.m., chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel when my Achilles tendon ruptured and I then fell on carpet, bruising the other leg in process.”
So quipped Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek today, hours after he chased a burglar from his San Francisco hotel room. Yes, 71-year-old Alex Trebek chased a burglar — and won. It happened in the wee hours:
Lt. Troy Dangerfield said two people were sleeping in a hotel room in the first block of Fourth Street.
“Around 3 a.m., one of the victims awoke to notice someone in the room and then noticed the suspect leaving the hotel room,” he said.
Dangerfield said the victim chased the suspect and was injured in the process. Hotel security apprehended the suspect, Lucinda Moyers, 56, of San Francisco. He said the victim identified the suspect.

Granted, the perp was a 56-year-old woman, but a burglar’s a burglar. (And let’s be honest: a lot of 56-year-old women would like to sneak into Alex Trebek’s hotel room.)
The swag — including a purse and wallet from Trebek’s room — was found down the hall “near an ice machine.” Always the trouper, Trebek went ahead and hosted the National Geographic World Championship later in the day at Google HQ in Mountain View.
Police refused to name Trebek’s hotel, but they did say it was in the first block of Fourth Street, which starts at Market Street. That makes it the boutique Hotel Palomar or (more likely) the Marriott Marquis.
