Facts about Bibi Andersson
Bibi Andersson Biography
Bibi Andersson was a Swedish actor of film and screen, known worldwide for her performances in Ingmar Bergman films, including The Seventh Seal (1957), Wild Strawberries (1957) and Persona (1966).
She started her career in the early 1950s and for a dozen years played sweet innocents. That all changed with Persona (with Liv Ullman), an emotionally demanding film in which she sports a pixie cut and does all the talking.
From then on she played more serious dramatic roles, including on the Swedish stage where she was much heralded. Bibi Andersson appeared in 13 films by Ingmar Bergman, and it is that association for which she will be most remembered.
Her films with Bergman included Smiles of a Summer Night (1955), The Devil’s Eye (1960), The Passion of Anna (1969) and Scenes From a Marriage (1973).
Her English-speaking films include I Never Promised You a Rose Garden (1977), An Enemy of the People (1978, starring Steve McQueen) and The Concorde: Airport ’79 (1979, starring George Kennedy).
