Carol Channing appears on the cover of Time for January 9, 1950. Channing had just begun starring on Broadway in the musical comedy Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. "Perhaps once in a decade a nova explodes above the Great White Way with enough brilliance to reillumine the whole gaudy legend of show business," Time said in its story.
