Channing Tatum Biography
Channing Tatum is a model and actor best known for his role as a buff male stripper in the 2012 film Magic Mike. Channing Tatum grew up in Alabama and Mississippi and got his first big break in Florida, where he landed a spot as a dancing extra for the Ricky Martin video of “She Bangs” (2000). His athletic build, bad-boy buzzcut and Brad Pitt jawline helped him start a modeling career, which in turn led to an acting career. After some high-profile TV commercials for Pepsi and Mountain Dew, Tatum began getting acting roles in television and film. He made his feature film debut in 2005’s Coach Carter (starring Samuel L. Jackson) and has since moved up to leading roles in films including She’s the Man (2006, starring Amanda Bynes), the Disney teen flick Step Up (2006) and A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints (2006, with Shia LaBeouf). In 2009 he starred as Duke, one of the fist-fighting G.I. Joe heroes in the action flick G.I. Joe: The Rise of COBRA. Tatum’s other films include Public Enemies (2009), The Vow (2011) and Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire (2011). In 2012 he both produced and starred in Magic Mike, a drama about male strippers in sunny Florida that was also directed by Soderbergh and co-starred Matthew McConaughey.
