Evel Knievel

Daredevil Evel Knievel posed for the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine -- the edition of 2 September 1974, just six days before his famous attempted jump of the Snake River Canyon. Knievel's parachute came out as he was launched, and he floated 600 feet to the canyon floor, where he suffered only minor injuries. Sports Illustrated photo by Hans Kluetmeier.
