James Doohan as Scotty in ‘Star Trek’

James Doohan as engineering officer Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in a production still from the original 1960s run of the sci-fi series Star Trek. (It's often called "Star Trek TOS," for "the original series," to differentiate it from the many Star Trek spinoff series and movies that followed.) The original series ran from 1966-69, with a pilot episode plus 79 regular episodes. James Doohan was born in 1920, so he turned 46 the year the series first aired.
