Jane Seymour Biography
Jane Seymour was the third wife of King Henry VIII of England.
She was a lady-in-waiting to both of Henry’s first two wives, Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn. Jane Seymour married Henry on 30 May 1536 (11 days after Boleyn’s execution) and bore him a son, the future Edward VI, the next year. She died 12 days later of complications from the birth.
Edward VI lived only to age 16 and was king of England from 1547-53. (His short reign was followed by the famous nine-day reign of Lady Jane Grey.) Jane Seymour is buried with Henry VIII at Windsor Castle, and is the only one of Henry’s wives to be buried with him.
