John Cena became a dominant figure in the professional wrestling business of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2005, and over the next decade became the WWE’s World Heavyweight Champion a record 12 times.
With his mighty pectorals, shaved chest and ample attitude, John Cena is known for his clean-cut meets hip-hop persona. He grew up in Massachusetts and played football at Springfield College there, but didn’t get involved in wrestling until 1999. Within two years, Cena was given a contract with WWE and put on the fast track to the top. He won his first big title in 2004, and since then has had a series of feuds with other wrestlers, building a “good guy” image that has polarized fans and pleased crowds.
Square-jawed and handsome, John Cena has also made a run at being a movie star, appearing in the films The Marine (2006, with Cena taking on Al-Qaeda), 12 Rounds (2009, with Cena taking on arms dealers) and Trainwreck (2015, with Cena as a funny gym addict). He also released a rap album in 2005, You Can’t See Me, featuring the single “Bad, Bad Man.”
