Joyce Carol Oates looks askance

Joyce Carol Oates is at the White House for the 2007 National Book Festival Breakfast, and she doesn't look happy about it. The date was September 29, 2007, and the U.S. president at the time was George W. Bush. Not that the two things have to be connected, of course. It's possible that somebody just stole her bacon.
