Langston Hughes smiles

This portrait of Langston Hughes, the famed poet of the Harlem Renaissance, was taken in 1942. Langston Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri in 1902, so he turned 40 the year this photo was taken. The photo is by Jack Delano, and is now part of the collections of the U.S. Library of Congress, Prints and Photographs Division.
