‘Marilyn Dead’ in the Daily News
MARILYN DEAD screams the banner headline of the New York Daily News for August 6, 1962. The paper was, of course, covering the death of movie star Marilyn Monroe. The actress had been found dead in her home in Los Angeles the day before of an overdose of sleeping pills (barbituates), and her death was officially ruled a probable suicide by the Los Angeles County Coroner. Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, so she was only 36 when she died.
