The ‘haunted’ Montgomery Clift room at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel
This is room 928 of the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, California, in a photo taken late in the 20th century. Room 928 is claimed by fans of the supernatural to be haunted by the ghost of Montgomery Clift. Clift stayed in the room for a few months while preparing for his dramatic role as an Army bugler in the 1953 film From Here to Eternity. Per the legend, the haunting strains of his ghost paying the bugle can sometimes be heard down the hall. The room has been renovated over the years, as the mod 'No Smoking Room' sign on the door indicates. Perhaps Montgomery Clift's ghost haunts only those who dare smoke in his old room.
