Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

A photo of Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr. He was the first dean of Harvard Medical School and also a celebrated essayist and author of "The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table." He was born in 1809 and died in 1894, and his son, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr., was a justice on the U.S. Supreme Court from 1902-32.
