A profile of Paul Cuffe

This profile of Captain Paul Cuffe is taken from his ship's seal. Cuffe, who was the richest African American of the early 1800s, was born in 1759 and died in 1818. Why a profile instead of a portrait? It seems that Cuffe, as a devout Quaker, objected to having his portrait painted.
