Facts about Silas Mitchell
Silas Weir Mitchell Biography
Silas Weird Mitchell is an American character actor known for his role as Monroe, a reformed wolfman (“blutbad”) in the TV fantasy series Grimm. Mitchell was interested in acting from an early age, and earned degrees in theater from Brown University (1991) and the University of California at San Diego (1995). Mitchell began his career on the New York stage, but after graduate school in San Diego, his steady work came from television appearances. In two decades, Mitchell racked up dozens of guest appearances in TV series such as The X-Files, Monk, Dexter and The Closer. His specialty seemed to be playing wild-eyed, deranged characters, as in his recurring role in My Name is Earl (2005-08, starring Jason Lee), and as “Haywire” in the first two seasons of the series Prison Break (2005-07, starring Wentworth Miller). He got his biggest fan response as Monroe, a sensitive and cultured lycanthrope who provides Grimm with both romance and comic relief.
