Tatiana Golovin Biography
Tatiana Golovin was a professional tennis player from 2004 until her early retirement in 2008.
Tatiana Golovin was born in Russia, but her family moved to France when Golovin was less than a year old. She began playing tennis early and turned pro in 2004, the year she turned 16. She was named WTA Tour Newcomer of the Year that year after reaching the fourth round at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon. The same year she won the mixed doubles competition at the French Open, paired with fellow French phenom Richard Gasquet; she was 16 and Gasquet was 17 at the time. She made the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open in 2006, falling to Maria Sharapova; it was her highest-ever finish in a major.
A chronic back injury ended her season in 2008, and she has not played on the WTA Tour since then. She began a new career as a tennis commentator on French television.
