Tom McCarthy Biography

Tom McCarthy is an actor who’s now more famous as the director (and Oscar-winning writer) of the 2015 film Spotlight.

A graduate of the Yale School of Drama, Tom McCarthy had been working as an actor when he wrote and directed The Station Agent, the 2003 film that was Peter Dinklage‘s first leading role.

Since then he’s made the films The Visitor (2007) and Win Win (2011, starring Paul Giamatti), written for the movies Up (2009) and Million Dollar Arm (2014), and appeared as an unscrupulous reporter in the final season of The Wire (2008).

His 2014 movie The Cobbler (starring Adam Sandler) was a flop, but Spotlight was a hit.

A based-on-real-life story of Boston Globe reporters uncovering sexual abuse by Catholic priests, The film starred Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams and Mark Ruffalo and won the Academy Award as the best picture of 2015.

Tom McCarthy (along with co-writer Josh Singer) won the Oscar for best original screenplay, and McCarthy was also nominated as best director.
