I recently saw this photo by Ted Palumbo of writer Jack Kerouac. It reminded me of another writer.
In fact, when I first saw the photo I wasn’t so sure it was Jack Kerouac. I thought it was Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club and Choke and Damned. I’ve never actually seen Chuck Palahniuk in person, even though we apparently live in the same town. So I had to look up a photo of him:
I think they look like each other.
They share a certain cool factor, too. But Kerouac didn’t maximize his talent the way Palahniuk has, dying young and out of control and all. Then again, maybe it was that kind of thing that made Kerouac a Counterculture Heavyweight.
