The long-running Dr. Demento radio show has finally gone off the air.
This was a very painful decision for the Doctor… he really hates to let
it go after almost 40 years… but he has come to agree with his manager and
his family that it’s necessary. The broadcast has been losing money for some
time.
Dr. Demento (real name: Barry Hansen) began broadcasting his show of radio oddities in Los Angeles in 1970. At its peak the show was syndicated nationwide on the Westwood One network, but it had dwindled to only five stations — one each in California, Oregon,
Ohio, Alaska and Alabama. (Alabama?)
Dr. Demento plans to continue running the show online at www.drdemento.com.
