Matt Cain threw a perfect game for the Giants last night, and Gregor Blanco saved it with a fantastic catch in the 7th inning. MLB.com has the catch three ways: with the TV call (featuring the great Jon Miller), the radio call, and then the Spanish radio call.
Bruce Jenkins sets the stage:
“Jordan Schafer was leading off the seventh inning for the Astros, a light-hitting team in fifth place in the National League’s Central Division. The count went to 3-and-2, meaning Cain had to throw a strike. He went with the fastball, Schaeffer hit a rocket to deep right-center and Blanco, after an all-out sprint, made a diving, one-handed catch. As the stadium rocked with energy, Cain said he had to take a moment to calm himself down. ‘I literally felt everybody (in the crowd) on the mound with me,’ he told KNBR. ‘The whole stadium. What a tremendous catch.'”
Not unlike Mike Baxter’s catch for the Mets a few weeks back.
It was the 22nd perfect game in American major league baseball history, and the first in Giants history.
