American Masters from PBS presents ‘Harper Lee: Hey, Boo’ on April 2nd.
Why are all those kids reading Suzanne Collins‘s The Hunger Games when they could be reading Harper Lee‘s To Kill A Mockingbird? Oh, right. Because they’ve already read Harper Lee’s classic novel in school. And they’ve probably already seen the movie version, starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, the dad you always wanted or wanted to be.
Judging from the PBS trailer for their upcoming presentation, this American Masters special won’t answer the big question about why Harper Lee only wrote one novel. But what a novel — To Kill A Mockingbird has been a consistent bestseller since 1960. It won the Pulitzer Prize. It made Harper Lee an admired legend. Her book is often cited as a favorite book by people who haven’t read it in 40 years.
