The pair married at the New Mexico governor’s mansion on Tuesday, with New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson presiding. It turns out Richardson didn’t quite marry them himself — he’s not qualified, so he “had some help from New Mexico Supreme Court Chief Justice Charles Daniels.”
(Not that Charlie Daniels. Entertainers run for president, but rarely for Supreme Courts.)
So, why the New Mexico governor’s mansion? Apparently because Ford is in the state right now filming the movie Cowboys and Aliens. It’s a “sci-fi western” starring Daniel Craig in what once surely would have been the Harrison Ford role, while Ford plays an aging baddie. It’s frankly encouraging to see Ford settling into roles that aren’t the Harrison Ford role. (Could he be taking our 2008 comments to heart?) Also, can’t wait to hear Craig do his American cowboy accent.
But back to the wedding. It’s Calista Flockhart’s first marriage; she adopted a son, Liam, in 2001, and the nine-year-old attended the wedding. It’s Harrison Ford’s third marriage, after marriages to Mary Marquardt (1965-79) and E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison (1984-2004).
Congratulations to both Ford and Flockhart. And we’ll take this opportunity to rerun a wonderful photo of them with a hippopotamus in 2009.
