John Mark Karr did not kill JonBenet Ramsey. That was the announcement made on 28 August 2006 by Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy.
Despite the DA’s earlier suspicions, and despite Karr’s claim to reporters that he “was with JonBenet when she died,” Karr’s DNA did not match with DNA found at the scene of the crime.
The Boulder Daily Camera is one good place to catch up on the story. Elsewhere, CBS legal analyst Andrew Cohen says “Don’t just blame Boulder prosecutors” and calls the Ramsey case “a black hole of unmet expectations, great disappointments, baffling inconsistencies, official incompetence, and unimaginable creeps.” The Boston Herald, always with the light touch, says It’s official: He’s Kar-razy.“
Early reports were that Karr would be released, but now authorities say he’ll be kept in custody and sent to California to face 2001 charges of possessing child pornography.
