Kim Kardashian‘s pregnancy has not been top-of-mind at the Who2 news desk, but now we must salute her for her frank talk about it on her official site.
In a piece titled “From the Desk of High-Risk Pregnancy,” she discusses with extreme openness her difficulties before (and immediately after) giving birth to her first child, North West, in 2013. It’s not for the faint of heart!
Last pregnancy, I had a condition called preeclampsia, which is a serious condition you can get during pregnancy… Only about 5 percent of woman get this. Lucky me! It causes your body and face to swell, and that was very uncomfortable for me. I had early-onset preeclampsia and I had to deliver at 34 weeks, almost six weeks early.
We induced my labor and I had North soon after. Right after delivery, the placenta usually then comes out. Mine did not. My placenta stayed attached inside my uterus, which is a condition called placenta accreta.
It all ends well enough, but not before she has a second epidural and the doctor removes her placenta by hand. (Her doctor, Paul Crane, was also the obstetrician for Kim’s mother Kris and actually delivered Kim 35 years ago.)
This rather thoughtful post ends with further information on preeclampsia and placenta accreta, which just goes to show that even a nutty celebrity can be very helpful and educational. We tip our caps.
The baby’s due sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas, and good luck to her. In the meantime, here are some recent photos of Kim Kardashian pregnant:
She was looking pretty grim there at the LACMA Gala this month. Maybe it’s the difficult pregnancy.
She was looking a little happier back in August at the MTV Music Video Awards, with her husband Kanye West.
