Once known as “Who’s Martin Freeman?” he’s now known as “that guy who was in The Hobbit.”
Martin Freeman first came onto our radar screen as the forlorn Tim in the original British version of The Office.
Then people got used to seeing him year after year, as they rewatched Love Actually with sweethearts who demanded it. Freeman plays the nudie stand-in who falls in love with his colleague, another nudie stand-in.
Now Freeman delights TV viewers with his portrayal of Dr. John Watson, the loyal and sometimes exasperated friend of Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) in the BBC’s Sherlock. And that’s where he was when Peter Jackson decided Freeman was the guy to play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.
