Apropos of nothing: here’s a wonderful episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood in which the visitor is actress Margaret Hamilton, better known as the Wicked Witch of the West in the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
Mister Rogers being Mister Rogers, the visit has a purpose: to show children that the scary witch they see on TV or in the movies is really just a nice lady dressed up as a witch. But props to Margaret Hamilton, who seems genuinely delighted to put on the old cape and pointed hat again. (At the 6:30 mark she even does her famous cackle.)
Is it too much to call it television “magic”? Not at all.
