Republican and House Minority Leader John Boehner wants an apology from Sir Paul McCartney. Stop the presses.
The story is here.
No, Boehner doesn’t want an apology for “Ebony and Ivory” (but I do). Boehner wants an apology for remarks the former Beatle made at a ceremony where President Barack Obama awarded McCartney the Gershwin Prize.
The Gershwin Prize is awarded by the Library of Congress for achievement in popular song.
McCartney made a pointed but out-of-context slam on President George W. Bush in his acceptance speech. McCartney implied that Bush was dumb.
And there’s no room for cheap shots and name-calling in American politics, as we all know. And musicians and pop stars have no business voicing their opinions, as we all know.
And Paul McCartney has never been known to play to the crowd.
