Rick Santorum‘s success as a candidate for the Republican Party nomination in 2012 suprised a lot of the experts. He won 11 states during his run, but couldn’t catch up to rival Mitt Romney.
Santorum fans blame Romney’s moneybags, and Romney fans say Santorum was never a serious candidate to begin with. Oddsmakers will now ponder Santorum’s campaign for the presidency in 2016.
In his announcement, Santorum thanks his supporters and urges the defeat of President Barack Obama, saying we need “a leader to raise us up, instead of provide for us.” Santorum doesn’t mention Mitt Romney, let alone endorse him. And while Santorum says the “race is over for me,” he also says “we are not done fighting.”
