Benazir Bhutto was killed by a bomb, not by gunfire.
That’s the conclusion of Scotland Yard, which has been investigating her assassination. Detectives decided that a gunman fired a shot and hen detonated a bomb, which killed Bhutto when the blast thrust her head against the roof hatch of her car.
“Scotland Yard has set the cat among the pigeons,” is how the Times of India puts it. That’s because the report supports the government’s earlier claims that Bhutto was killed in the explosion. Bhutto’s political party, the PPP, continues to insist that she was shot and that the government is covering up the truth.
The Times (of London) has a good introductory report, and the BBC breaks down the key points and offers a PDF of the whole Scotland Yard report.
