New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has resigned.
Sort of. He is still governor, but announced today that he would step down next Monday, March 17th. (St. Patrick‘s Day, coincidentally.) He’ll be replaced by the current lieutenant governor, David Paterson.
Paterson will be New York’s first black governor. According to the Washington Times, he’ll also be “the nation’s third black governor since Reconstruction. L. Douglas Wilder served as Virginia’s Democratic governor from 1990 to 1994, and Deval Patrick has been the Democratic governor of Massachusetts since January 2007.”
