Sri Srinivasan is the U.S. Court of Appeals judge who seems to be one of the leading candidates to fill the Supreme Court seat left empty by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia last month. [Update: Merrick Garland was nominated instead.]
Among the interesting Sri Srinivasan facts:
- ‘Sri’ is an nickname; his birth name, per the New York Times, was Padmanabhan Srikanth Srinivasan.
- Sri Srinivasan was born in India but his family emigrated to Lawrence, Kansas when he was a youngster. His late father, T.P. Srinivasan, was a math professor at the University of Kansas for three decades.
- He holds three degrees from Stanford: a BA (1989) and then both a law degree and an MBA (1995). His wife, Carla Garrett, is a 1994 graduate of Stanford Law School.
- He clerked for former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
- If he is indeed nominated to the Supreme Court and approved by the U.S. Senate, he would become the first Indian-American, first Asian-American, and first Hindu justice on the court.
