Has a hiker found the first firm evidence of missing pilot Steve Fossett?
An FAA card, a pilot ID, and $1000 in cash were found by hiker Preston Morrow near Mammoth Lakes in California, says the Reno Gazette-Journal.
The RGJ says details are still sketchy, but makes a quick trip into gruesome territory courtesty of local resident David Baumwohl: “He’s probably been eaten… When people land in alpine wilderness, there’s bears, mountain lions that’ll eat the body.”
[ Update: The Discovery Channel now has photos of the money and ID cards found by Morrow. ]
Mammoth Lakes would be roughly 100 miles south of Fossett’s take-off point, the Barron Hilton ranch near Yerrington, Nevada.
