Just in time for tourist season, the latest “sighting” of the Loch Ness Monster is being reported. You don’t think that the Tourism Board of Scotland… well, let’s let that unkind thought pass.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this jet black thing, about 45 feet long, moving fairly fast in the water,” is how Time magazine quotes Gordon Holmes, a “55-year-old a lab technician from Shipley, Yorkshire” who allegedly took the video last Saturday.
Not to be too skeptical, but if this new video is so shocking, how come news sites like ABC News still feel compelled to lead with the classic old “surgeon’s photo” that started the whole thing in 1934 (and which later was revealed to be a hoax)?
Perhaps it’s a clue that the Scotland news section of The Scotsman newspaper seems to have no story at all on the subject. Even a search of their archives turned up nothing recent. Too high and mighty to report the latest news from Loch Ness? Or do The Scotsman’s editors know something we don’t?
The BBC, being good sports about it all, has the video.
Well, here’s hoping the rumor is finally true this time. For sheer delight, though, you can’t beat the National Geographic’s suggestion last year that Nessie is really a submerged elephant.
