Tiger Woods made his speech of abashment this morning. It was covered on TV like a State of the Union address, with all major network and cable players cutting to the live 11:00 am telecast.
Even CNBC dropped the ticker tape to watch the show, perhaps on the premise that Nike stock might be affected. (It rose from $64.25 at 11:00 am to $64.39 at 11:30.)
Tiger’s mom Kutilda Woods attended, but his wife Elin Woods did not.
Woods spoke a little more plainly than he has in the past: “I was unfaithful. I had affairs. I cheated.” He also continued to insist that his wife, Elin, “never hit me that night or any other night.”
And he said he would return to golf someday. “I don’t know when that will be. I don’t rule out that it will be this year.” In the meantime, he said, “Starting tomorrow, I will leave for more treatment and more therapy.”
Here’s a full transcript of the address.
