The new Paul Thomas Anderson movie, The Master, now has a teaser trailer. So we collected trailers for all the other Paul Thomas Anderson movies.
A writer and director with a devoted following, P. T. Anderson — PTA to his fans — has five Oscar nominations under his belt, three of them for his screenplays. He was nominated for 1997’s Boogie Nights, for 1999’s Magnolia and for 2007’s There Will Be Blood.
There Will Be Blood also got Anderson Oscar nominations for best picture and best director.
He makes well-crafted, sometimes sprawling dramas, and if you don’t like one of them, make sure you tell a PTA fan so they can say “you just don’t get it.”
I just didn’t get Magnolia, for example. I knew I wouldn’t get 2002’s Punch Drunk Love because I just don’t get Adam Sandler. So maybe I’m not a big PTA fan. I give him credit for what he does, but his movies are generally the kind I want to have seen more than the kind I want to sit and watch.
Which is why it’s more fun to watch trailers for his movies than to actually watch his movies. So here they are, from 1996’s Hard Eight to next fall’s The Master.
Hard Eight, with Gwyneth Paltrow and Samuel L. Jackson:
Boogie Nights, with Mark Wahlberg and Heather Graham:
Magnolia, with Tom Cruise and Julianne Moore:
Punch Drunk Love, with Adam Sandler and Emily Watson:
There Will Be Blood, starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano:
And The Master, with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix:
