Robert Wadlow, the world’s tallest man at 8’4″, stands up for the British Pathé cameras in 1936.
“Quite beyond the reach of young women” indeed. Wasn’t surrounding this guy with women just a little cruel? (“Hey ladies, come in and reach for the freak!”) No crueler than the British puns, however. “Every time young Robert goes through a doorway, he scores a duck.”
They didn’t know the grim future at the time: Robert Wadlow grew seven more inches in the next five years and then died of an infected blister at the young age of 22.
